Ms. Carnell Ninnie Sexton, age 90 of Lafayette, TN passed away on Thursday morning September 2, 2010 at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. Funeral services for Ms. Carnell Ninnie Sexton will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Bill Traughber officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday at 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday untill service time.

Ms. Kathy Brawner, age 81 of Lebanon, TN and formerly of Macon County, TN passed away on Thursday morning September 2, 2010 at Quality Care - Cedars Healthcare Center in Lebanon. Funeral services for Ms. Kathy Brawner will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jimmy Claiborne officiating. Interment will follow in the Pony-McDonald Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday morning at 10 a.m. and continue until service time Saturday.

STEVE HOBSON- age 53, of Westmoreland, TN passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. from New Zion General Baptist Church with Reverend Willie Leduc officiating. James Bullington, Harold Wis, Phil Kuhns, Kenny Wix, Harold Bullington, and Willie Leduc served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the New Zion Cemetery.
He was born on September 12, 1957 in Augsburg, Germany to the late Walter Conner and Erma Jean Coronett Hobson. Besides his parents; one brother, Russell Hobson also preceded him in death.
Steve worked for Cracker Barrel, before moving on to become a carpenter. He worked for Ward Construction and later Wix Painting. Steve enjoyed mowing yards and doing handy-man repairs for his neighbors and friends. Sitting on the bank fishing was his great pass time. Steve was saved at a young age and was of the Baptist Faith and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by; daughters, Isabella Hobson of East, TN, Stephanie Barr, and Robin Hobson, both of Ohio, brother and sister-in-law, John and Sheri Hobson of Rochester, New York, sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Vincent Rohm of Ashtabulah, Ohio, nieces and nephews, Adam Hobson, Michael Hobson, Marissa Hobson, and Sarah Hobson, also survive.

Edna Sue Henson Jent, age 75 of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday evening, August 24, 2010 at Metro General Hospital. Funeral services for Edna Sue Jent are scheduled to be conducted on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Marcus Mann, Dan Carter, Freddie Pervine, and others officiating. Dennis Hix, Jerry Brooks, Rusty Jent, William Forrest, Brinda Robinson, Jackie McClard, Peggy Wheat, Benny Doss, Debbie Cooper, Sherry Hart, Barbara Jent, Tony Mandrell, and Doug Harrison served as honorary pallbearers. Carol Koser, Steve Koser, Jeff Henson, Ronnie Jones, Jerry Sadler, and Tommy Cooper served as active pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
She was born on December 17, 1934 in Sumner County, Tennessee to the late Clarance and Lassie Sullivan Henson. She was married to the love of her life, Gordon Bruce Jent on June 21, 1952, sharing fifty years together; he preceded her in death on August 13, 2002. Edna and Gordon raised two sons and a daughter. Besides her husband and parents; four sisters, Ruby Cooper, Selma Kirkland, Bessie Cantrell, and Mildred Sadler, also preceded her in death.
From High School all through her life Edna was an avid sports person. She played everything; basketball, softball, and bowling. She was a race car driver. In her younger years, she drove in the Indianapolis Powder Puff Races and raced some here in Macon County at the Wolf Hill Race Track. That is were Dale Ernhardt came in, she was his biggest fan. Time never slowed down for Edna, in the midst of her sports, she found time to work and travel. Starting her career out as a beautician, she continued to style hair for family and friends. Edna and Gordon worked and helped manage Jent Chair Manufacturing, owned by Gordon’s dad. It is now known as F&M Manufacturing. She later went in to the clothing business for a short time before moving on to office work. Edna started her office skills working for Hollis Doss Bookkeeping. When Hollis retired, Edna and Evelyn White took over the business; it then became Jent & White Tax Services and Bookkeeping. This is where she settled for the next twenty something years. In the slow times, Edna and Janice “Moose” would paint houses. She worked in the office for D & T Trucking in her latter years. Edna loved to make flowers for decoration and raise a vegetable garden. She would put her can goods in the fair, winning several ribbons. She continued playing sports during these times, belonging to the Seniors Bowling League in Gallatin, TN, Senior Softball League, and the Citizens Bank Softball League. She was an All-Star in every way. Edna will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by; sons, Bruce Jent, and Rodney Jent & Tamera Moore, daughter, Penny Jent and William Forrest all of Lafayette, TN, grandchildren, Rocky Jent, and Austin Forrest all of Lafayette, TN, great-grandson, Kolby Jent of Scottsville, KY, brother, Tommy and wife Christal Henson of Indianpolis, IN, sisters, Jean and Freddie Pervine of Mississippi, and Earlene Carter of Indiana, also survives.

Kenzley Renee East, age four months of Lafayette, the infant child of Devon East and Caneal McGuffey passed away on Sunday afternoon August 22, 2010 at Vanderbilt Children Hospital. Funeral services for Kenzley Renee East were conducted on Thursday August 26, 2010, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home. Entombment followed in the Sumner County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
She was born on April 9, 2010 in Sumner County, Tennessee.
Thou her life here on Earth was short, she touched many hearts. The Lord promises us no certain amount of days here. He often picks his prettiest flowers for his bouquet. We often question things that happen, but everything is in his plan. Kenzley will be greatly missed by her loving family.

MONNIE HUDDLESTON, age 93, of Lafayette, passed away early Sunday, August 22, at The Palace Care and Rehab in Red Boiling Springs. Funeral services for Mrs. Monnie Huddleston were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Jerry Mercer officiating. Interment followed in the Thomas Cemetery.
She was born on May 28, 1917 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Solomon Thomas Hudson and Nettie Anderson Davis.
She was married to Jimmie Milton Huddleston in 1936, sharing forty-four years together and raising one son and one daughter; he preceded her in death on June 28, 1980. Besides her husband and parents; grandson, Michael Huddleston, two brothers, Horace Davis and Carter Davis and two sisters, Ida Mae Brooks, and Bessie Morrow, also preceded her in death.
Monnie and Jimmie owned and operated Huddleston Grocery on the old Red Boiling Springs Road for around twenty years. They worked side by side, whether in the store or in the fields. After Jimmie’s death she decided to close the store.
She was a homebody, who enjoyed quilting, and gardening. Monnie loved cooking big meals for her children and their families and spending time with them.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Monnie is survived by; daughter, Joyce Huddleston of Lafayette, TN, son, Leonard Ray and wife Phyllis Huddleston of Alabama, grandson, Kevin Huddleston, great-grandchildren,
Ian Huddleston, and Olivia Huddleston all of Missouri, brother, Vester and wife Iside Davis of Hendersonville, TN, grandchildren, Lester Johnsey, Scott Johnsey, and David Johnsey, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, also survive.

DERRICK WAYNE MEADOR, age 31, of Lafayette, passed away early Sunday, August 22, at Trousdale Medical Center in Hartsville from injuries sustained from an automobile accident. He is the son of Bruce and Teresa Meador of Lafayette, TN. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Tony Whittemore officiating. Jeff Tone, Billy Bandy, Steven Reed, Donnie Likens, Dewayne Harp, and Tracy Brawner served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery.
He was born on September 26, 1978 in Sumner County, Tennessee to Bruce Wayne and Teresa Darlene Thompson Meador.
Derrick worked as a roofer. He was very talented; he could speak three languages and was a good artist. Sitting down with a pad and pencil drawing passed a lot of time for him. As a young boy he liked to go fishing. Derrick was always on the go whether hanging out with friends or being with his little girl. He cared greatly for his family and loved being a dad to Emma Nicole; she was his life.
At the age of thirteen, Derrick was saved at New Zion General Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his Bible and could quote a lot of the scriptures. Derrick will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Binion, age 69 of Lafayette, Tennessee, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Elder Royce Key officiating. Family chose cremation and burial will be conducted later at the Cold Springs Cemetery.
Jerry was born August 29, 1940 in Macon County, Tennessee. He was the son of Odell Scott Binion and Jessie Carter Binion. He was the 3rd, child of five children.
Besides his parents; son, Terry Binion, brothers, E.J. (Rooster) Binion, Edward (Monk) Binion, and James Binion, along with three half sisters, and one half brother; also preceded him in death.
Jerry was a member of the United States Army. After his time in the Army he returned to Lafayette to start his life where he had left off.
Jerry was an employee of North Central Telephone Cooperative for fifteen years. After leaving North Central he remained a self-employed electrician, where he finally retired in the year 2000.
Jerry had two children, Terry and Susie. They gave Jerry his most prized possessions, Eric, Rian, and Jaysen and then came Erica and Ashley Dyer.
He was a very special man, everyone he met loved him. He was a man that kept a smile on his face followed by laughter. Jerry was often more worried about his children and his grandchildren rather than himself. But even this was hard to notice due to his smiling face.
With only a 8th, grade education, Jerry was still a master of many things. Often you would find him tinkering with a car, lawn mower, or just about anything that was torn up at the time. He always had to be busy doing something, “Worth Doing” he would always say. Jerry enjoyed many things, including his garden, his faithful dogs, his grandchildren, and his friends and family. Often you would see Jerry on his lawn mower, pulling his wagon going to the garden to see what kind of “GOODIES” he could find that day. This was a sight that many seen on a daily basis if driving up the Galen Road.
If anyone asked Jerry what his greatest accomplishment was in his lifetime, he would often reply “Terry and Susie”. He was a dedicated family man; loving his son, his daughter, his grandchildren, and his brothers and sister. Jerry was proud of his family and he loved them with everything he had.
Jerry is survived by; daughter, Susie (Royce) Kirby of Lafayette, TN, grandchildren, Eric Binion and Fiance’ Kellie Overton of Cookeville, TN, and Rian Kirby, Jaysen Kirby both of Lafayette, TN, step-grandaughters, Erica Blair and Ashley Dyer, brother, Roger (Rita) Binion, and sister, Shirley (Bryant) Napier all of Lafayette, TN, also survive.

MRS. PATRICIA MARSH age 63 of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday morning August 21, 2010 at the Macon County General Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Marsh were conducted on Wednesday August 25, 2010, at 1:00PM from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home. Cremation followed the services at the funeral home.
She was born on September 5, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Roger Nelson McGrigry and Elizabeth Mae Perkins Shupe. Besides her parents; one brother, Jim Shupe also preceded her in death.
She was married to Tony Marsh on July 13, 1991, sharing nineteen years together.
Patricia worked in a factory for several years then went too worked as a manager for a restaurant. She liked going to play Bingo and watching the Titans play football. Patricia was a huge Titans fan. Cooking and being with her family was what she loved to do most.
Patricia was of the Roman Catholic Belief and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

CHRIS ALAN HEATH- age 54 of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at his residence on Cardinal Drive in Lafayette, TN. Funeral services for Chris Alan Heath were conducted Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jeff Blackwell officiating. Jack Hanes, Jerry Brown, Paul Napier, Matt Napier, Weldon Napier, and Will Heath served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Union Chapel Cemetery.
Chris was born on February 9, 1957 in Allen County, Kentucky to the late Edwin Stanley and Frances Napier Heath. Besides his parents; a granddaughter, McKynzie Ashworth, also preceded him in death.
Chris grew up in the Mt. Union Community of Allen County, Kentucky on a farm where he learned a lot of lessons as a boy. He graduated from Allen County High School in 1975. As a young man, Chris was married and had a son, Caleb. He took a lot of pride in raising his son and step-daughters. Chris went to work at Carter Automotive in Lafayette as a young man before accepting a position with American Greetings in 1980, where he worked for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and sitting around the camp fire at Long C Trails, but most important to him was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was saved at a gospel singing as a young man, and he later joined Enon Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member.
He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Chris is survived by; son, Caleb Heath, step-daughters, Erin Ashworth and Amber Emberton all of Lafayette, TN, brother, Scottie (Mary) Heath of the Mt. VELMA LOIS PRESLEY- age 81 of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday morning August 10, 2010 at the Gallatin Healthcare. Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Lois Presley will be conducted Wednesday, August 11th, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Michael Drennon officiating. Bill Sorrells, Dennis Thrasher, Ricky Troop, James Stinson, Greg Alvis, James Kemp, James Perry, and Danial Soto served as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Drury Cemetery.
She was born on September 17, 1928 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Cornelius and Lillian Hesson Bandy.
She was married to Leonard Lee Presley on April 17, 1947, sharing twenty-nine years together; he preceded her in death on October 16, 1976. Besides her husband and parents; one brother, Delbert Bandy, also preceded her in death.
Velma was a housewife and enjoyed being outside working in her garden. She never had children of her own so she spoiled her nephew, Donald. Velma and Leonard loved having Donald to come and stay with them and treated him as their own.
She was a very caring person and always wanted to do for others. If anyone needed her in time of sickness all they had to do was call. Velma liked watching her soap opera’s on television and going out to eat chicken with family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Velma is survived by; nephew, Donald and wife Tiffany Bandy, great nephews, Noah and Nick Bandy all of Gallatin, TN.

DALE MORGAN SANDERS, SR. - age 65 of Dickson and formerly of Lafayette, TN passed away on Sunday afternoon, August 8, 2010 at Baptist Hospital. Funeral services for Dale Morgan Sanders, Sr. were conducted Wednesday, August 11th, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Drury Cemetery.
He was born on November 22, 1944 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Ted and Dorothy Gulley Sanders.
He married Harriett Lee Sanders in 1967, sharing forty years together and raising four children. You never saw Dale or Harriett, without the other close behind, she preceded him in death on November 17, 2007.
Besides his wife and parents; daughter, Patricia Gail Sanders, sister, Mary Draper, and brother, Jesse Sanders, also preceded him in death.
Dale worked for Spring Industries in Nashville for thirty years, before retiring in 2004.
As a young boy Dale grew up on a farm and enjoyed life in the country. He bought his own farm here in Macon County, so weekends and vacation time was usually spent there. Dale enjoyed raising gardens, fishing, and sitting on the front porch with his family.
Being the father and grandfather that he was, his family’s needs was his priority. Dale will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by; sons, Dale Sanders, Jr.(Trish) of Gallatin, TN, and Darrell W. Sanders of Portland, TN, daughter, Michelle (Raymond) Cox of Dickson, TN, brothers, Sammy Sanders of Scottsville, KY, and J.R. Sanders of Green Grove in Macon County, TN, sister,

MELVIN CASADY - age 82 of Lafayette, passed away early on Sunday morning August 1, 2010 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. A Celebration of Life was conducted on Wednesday, August 4th, at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Jimmy McDowell officiating. Brian Rhodes, DeWayne Cothron, Henry Shoultz, Larry Tucker, Dillian Dyer, and James Ralph Howser served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery.
He was born July 3, 1928 in Macon County, Tennessee to Edgar Lee and Anna Tucker Casady. He grew up enjoying life in the country with his older brother E.L. Jr. and sister, Bernice. The family later moved to town and he found life was different. His brother Jackie Rhea and sister Jo Ella were born here.
School was never Melvin’s favorite subject, but he managed to find more interesting jobs from selling popcorn and running a movie projector at the local theater to climbing poles for the construction of new telephone lines.
In 1949, he left Macon County for life in the United States Air Force. Working on airplane engines helped him find his niche.
His last tour of duty was Albrook Air Force Base in the Republic of Panama. He received an honorable discharge in 1952 after having served four years. He tried selling shoes at his father’s shoe store. This was not a rewarding job for him. He realized the importance of an education, and attended MTSU for two years. He began to work for the US Postal Service. His job of working in the post office gave him the incentive to become a rural letter carrier. He was given the job on Rural Route One. He enjoyed serving his patrons and the many unique occurrences he encountered. Later he would recall these incidents and would relive them in the yarns he would spin. After thirty years of believing “The mail must go through” he decided to retire.
Gardening and traveling became his hobbies. He had a goal of visiting all the capital cities in the United States; he did this with exception of Alaska.
His gardening and traveling ended August 1St. He followed the other family members who had gone on, his parents, Ed and Anna, E.L. Jr., Bernice and Jackie Rhea.
Continuing to live is his wife of forty-four years, Marion Casady, sister, Jo Ella and husband Wendell Moore, cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom he loved and cherished.

RONNIE VAN ANDERSON - age 47, of the Hillsdale Community in Macon County, passed away early on Sunday morning August 1, 2010 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. Funeral services for Mr. Ronnie Anderson were conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Brent Hall officiating. Interment followed in the Cedar Bluff Cemetery.
He was born October 19, 1962 in Paris County, Illinois to Bedford Travis and Margaret Elizabeth Miller Anderson, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Anderson, and one sister, Kathy Anderson.
While he was a young boy his family moved to Kansas, where he graduated from Kansas High School. Ronnie enlisted in the United States Army in November 1982, training at the U.S. Army Infantry School in Fort Benning, Ga. He served one year at Camp Howze, South Korea. When he returned to the states, he went to work for Preston Brothers Construction for six years as a laborer, before becoming disabled.
Ronnie was married in his younger life and had three children. Later on October 6, 2005, he married Patricia Lynn Boles, sharing four years together. Though their time together was short, many happy memories were made.
Ronnie had a dog named “Precious” that loved sitting in his lap. He was a talented man who enjoyed wood-crafting and liked to fish. Ronnie is remembered as a kind and gentle husband and father, who loved his family.
After being saved in 2000, Ronnie had recently joined Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

BOBBY JOE GREGORY, age 27 of Lafayette, TN passed away on July 31, 2010 at Macon County General Hospital.
He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on January 31, 1983 to his parents, James Lewis Gregory and Dorothy Jean Farmer Twiford. Bobby was a self-employed construction worker. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

MRS. ALICE HELEN LAMB, better known as Helen- age 84 of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday evening, July 27, 2010 at the Trousdale Medical Center in Hartsville, TN. Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Lamb were conducted Friday, July 30th, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Walter Andrews officiating. Interment followed in the Eulia Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on December 22, 1925 to her parents, the late Bennie Elzor and America Perry Bandy.
Helen was married to Willie Lamb on April 29, 1944, making a wonderful life together for thirty-eight years and raising two sons, Willie preceded her in death on September 7, 1982. After being without him for the last twenty-eight years, they are finally reunited and walking the streets of gold together.
Besides her husband and parents; two grandchildren, Lannie and Pennie Lamb, four brothers, Willie, Ray, Dennis, and Larry Bandy, and two sisters, Katherine Warner, and Hazel Ford also preceded her in death.
Helen worked as a housekeeper for Hartsville Nursing Home and then The Palace Nursing Home for almost thirty years, before retiring. She liked being a homemaker, sewing, and quilting. But working in her flowers and cooking for her family was what she enjoyed the most.
Helen was a very loving mother, who liked to have her children and grandchildren around her.
She was saved as a young lady and joined New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church were she remained a member. Helen will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lynn (Janice) Lamb of Lafayette, TN, and James Elvis (Georgia) Lamb of the New Harmony Community in Macon County, TN, sister, Anne (Bobby) Hyde of Lafayette, TN, eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, also survive.

BILLY FRANK CLIBURN - Age 72 of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 from injuries sustained in an accident. Funeral services for Mr. Billy Frank Cliburn were conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Bobby Hale officiating. Interment followed in the Rocky Mound Cemetery.
He was born in Macon County, Tennessee on November 21, 1937 to his parents, the late Joseph Arnold and Virgie Armenda Judge Cliburn. Besides his parents; one grandchild, Matthew Caleb Cliburn, also preceded him in death.
On September 7, 1957, he was married to his sweet heart, Joyce Marie Etheridge, sharing fifty-two years together and raising three children; Joyce survives.
His occupation was a mechanic for Peterbilt and then Goodyear for several years, before retiring in 1981. Billy’s second job was farming and that was what he did most all his life. Working in the fields and taking care of his cattle was his enjoyment. Billy had a great personality; joking and showing off around family and friends. He could brighten your day with just a smile.
In his younger days, he loved fast cars and enjoyed talking about them. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather; cherishing every minute he had with his family.
Billy was saved and joined Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a member. He was also a member of the Historical Society. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
Besides his wife, Joyce, he is survived; daughters, Regina Christine Beasley, and Angela Marie (Craig) Sloan, son, Tim (Edie) Cliburn of Lafayette, TN, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, also survive.

CANDIE "BUSHY” SLAYTON - age 31, of the Eulia Community, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Macon County General Hospital. Funeral services for Ms. Candie Slayton were conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Ricky Vance officiating. Interment followed in the Shrum Cemetery.
She was born in Wilson County, Tennessee on November 9, 1978 to her parents, L.C. and Rita Karene Knight Slayton.
Candie, better known as “Bushy” had one son and one daughter. Her daughter, Tazland Lasae Slayton, grandparents, L.T. and Betty Slayton and Elmer and Annie Knight, all preceded her in death.
Bushy was disabled, but was full of life and enjoyed being with her family and friends.
She enjoyed helping in the concession stand for the Macon County Saddle Club when she was able. Bushy was told at one time that she wasn’t able to care for her son. But being the caring mother that she was; she proved them wrong. Her son gave her the will to carry on.
Bushy was saved in 2004 and was of the Baptist Belief. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by; son, Denton Slayton, father, L.C. Slayton, mother, Rita Slayton all of the Eulia Community in Macon County, TN, brothers, Dwight (Leslie) Gass and “Fudd” L.C. (Barb) Slayton all of Lafayette, TN, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, that she dearly loved also survives.

BOBBY JOE HAYNES, JR. - Age 39 of San Antonio, Texas passed away early Tuesday morning, June 29, 2010 at the Southwest General Hospital. The family chose cremation for the remains in Texas. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Roark Cemetery in Lafayette, Tennessee. Pastor Jimmy Kelly officiating and interment to followed.
He was born in Rockford, Illinois, on September 18, 1970 to Bob and Janie Haynes. He was of the Church of Christ Faith.
Bobby worked as a factory worker early in life, but as a photographer in Texas for the past fifteen years. He enjoyed keeping touch with family and friends by computer and photography. He is survived by mother, Janie Serna of San Antonio, Texas, father and step-mother, Bob and Shirley Haynes, brother, Charles (Eva) Ray all of Lafayette, TN, sisters, Elizabeth (Jerry) Thompson of Crossville, TN, Eileen (Jackie) Haney of Cookville, TN, brothers, Henry Haynes and Christopher (Rozlyn) Serna of Washington, plus a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

MR. CHARLES E. SLAYTON - age 70 of Lafayette, passed away early Sunday morning July 11, at his residence with his family by his side. Funeral services for Mr. Charles Slayton were conducted on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Mike Eib officiating. Herby Green, Greg Carson, Wayne “PeeWee” Roberts, Connie “Peanut” Wilburn, Donnie Hesson, and Billy Brooks served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
Charles was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on January 30, 1940 to his parents, the late Joe Dorris and Alice Susie Hood Slayton. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Ophelia Estes.
Charles was married to the love of his life, Joyce Lavergne Reed Slayton on September 20, 1958, sharing almost fifty-two years together and raising two daughters; Joyce survives.
He worked for Tennessee Farmers Co-op in Lavergne for thirty-five years as maintenance personnel, retiring in 2002. Being in the public for so many years, he met a lot of people and made a host of friends. He was a joy to be around having a great sense of humor and personality.
Family values were very important to him and being the father he was, family came first. When holidays came around he was like a kid in a candy store, and he enjoyed every minute. He was known for his B.B.Q., and he liked to cook, hosting gatherings with friends and family. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass Music and making his own wine. He was good at making wine.
Charles was known for ability to work on and restore antique tractors. If you ever needed to find him, you could look in his building where he would be tinkering on the tractors. He was a member of the Wilson County Antique Power Association.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends, but left them the assurance that he would see them again some day.
Charles is survived by; wife, Joyce Lavergne Reed Slayton of Lafayette, TN, daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn (Mike) Eib of Nashville, TN, and Karen “Sweetpea” (Rush) Williams of Springfield, TN, grandchildren, Charlie Eib of Lafayette, TN, Brooke (Josh) Eib-Mann of Gastonia, N. ROY HAMILTON ORANGE, JR. age 87 of the Frog Pond Community in Macon County, TN, passed away peacefully, July 7, 2010 with family and friends by his side.
Funeral services for Mr. Roy Hamilton Orange, Jr. were conducted Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Joey Hackett officiating. Employees of the Macon County Sheriffs Department, during Sheriff Joe Ferguson’s term in office, served as Honorary Pallbearers. Neal Ferguson, Joe Ferguson, Richard Osborne, Danny Strawn, Robert Dollard, and Mark Roberts served as Active Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
On May 2, 1923, he was born to parents, Roy Hamilton Orange, Sr. and Eva Driskel Orange in Browder, Kentucky, where he went to the Missionary Baptist Church and was saved as a child.
He was married on April 9, 1954 to the love of his life, Lucylle (Dollard) Orange sharing forty-six years together and raising a daughter.
Besides his wife and parents; two brothers, James W. Orange and Hamilton Lee Orange, also preceded him in death.
Roy served in the United States Army during World War II from March 1943 thru December 1945. In the fifty’s he went to work for the Tennessean Newspaper Corporation in Nashville, where he worked the night shift for many years. Roy, Lucylle, and Donna moved to Lafayette, TN in 1971 and he continued to commute to work in Nashville for several years. After retiring from the Tennessean, he worked at the Hartsville Nuclear Plant for a time, and then went to work for the Macon County Sheriffs Department for several years. He was a member of the Lafayette Church of Christ. Roy loved being a father and grandfather; his family came first.
But in his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing poker with his friends. He was a Big U.T. Fan and liked to watch their games.
Being a generous, caring, and loving man, was what most remember about Roy. He was deeply loved and will leave a void in the hearts of his family and friends.
Roy is survived by; daughter, Donna Gayle Esstman of Nashville, TN, granddaughter,
Shauna and husband Richard Osborne, Jr. of Lafayette, TN, niece, Jill Orange of Lewisburg, TN, nephew, Mark and wife Sharon Orange of Spring Hill, TN, and a host of friends; also survive.

RAY FLIPPIN - age 67 of Lafayette, passed away late on Sunday, July 4th, at Skyline Medical Center. Funeral services for Ray Flippin were conducted Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder J.E. Shoulders officiating. Ray was born in Macon County, Tennessee on May 13, 1943 to parents, Vanies Raymond and Bessie Mae Driver Flippin; they preceded him in death.
On August 17, 1963, he married the love of his life Peggy Bransford Flippin, sharing almost forty-seven years together. They raised a son and daughter; thus making their life complete. Ray worked for American Greetings as a Line Set-up man and worked part-time at the Macon County Board of Education. He retired in 2002 after twenty-seven years of employment. Ray took great pride in making large gardens and giving a lot of it away to friends and family. Sitting on the bank fishing or hunting in the woods was some of his great past times. He really enjoyed being outdoors. Most people remember Ray for being so big hearted. He liked giving to and doing for others. He was a good cook and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. Ray loved his family and wanted to spend all the time he could with the grandkids. He was saved in 1955 and joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member for over fifty-three years. Ray will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

EMMA CATHERINE DOSS, age 74, of Lafayette passed away on June 30, 2010 at Hendersonville Medical Center. Funeral services for Catherine Doss were conducted on Saturday, July 3 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Mike Rogers officiating. Interment followed in the Underwood Cemetery. Catherine was born in Allen County, Kentucky on September 25, 1935 to the late Connie Carson and Ercie Franklin Roark. Catherine was married to the love of her life, Billy Lewis Doss, on Dec. 13, 1952. Together they shared 52 years and raised two children, David and Terry. Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by; brothers, Melvin, Murl Thomas, and Blondell Roark, and sisters, Willa Dean Driver and Jewell Travell.
Catherine started her career at Walton’s Tea Company as a young woman. After leaving Walton’s, she worked as a seamstress over the years for different garment factories. She worked for Imperial Reading and later F& M. She retired from Racoe around 1998. Catherine was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She was a member of the White Oak Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. MR. CALSON “RABBIT” DOSS, age 77 of Lafayette, TN, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. Calson was born in Macon County, Tennessee on July 26, 1932 to the late Elzie Samuel and Grace Truman Fishburn Doss. Rabbit was married to the love of his life, Ruby Nell Evetts on Dec. 23, 1960. Together they shared forty-nine years raising two children, Connie and Tim. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by; a brother, Curtis Doss and a sister, Evelle Doss.
Rabbit worked for North Central Telephone Cooperative for 27 years before retiring in 1990. In his spare time from work, he loved hunting and fishing. Also, he was a huge sports fan that enjoyed participating in or watching sports. His favorite sport was baseball in which he enjoyed coaching or umpiring ball games for several years. However, in his later years, his grandchildren stole his attention. They were it in his eyes.
Most importantly, Rabbit was saved while in the military during the Korean Conflict. He later joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member the rest of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Linda Gale Perdue, of the Rocky Mound Community in Macon County departed this life on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. Funeral services for Linda Perdue were conducted from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Leon Keith officiating. Interment followed in the Rocky Mound Cemetery. Myron Perdue, Richard Haskins, Forrest Bullington, Daniel Olgivie, Christopher Kuykendall, and Daniel Keith served as pallbearers.
Linda Gale Perdue was born Monday, April 30th 1945, and was the oldest daughter of the late Bill Perdue and Hassie Mai Perdue of the Rocky Mound Community of Macon County. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Bill Perdue and a brother, James Henry Perdue.
At a very young age, Linda made her preparation for her final journey. She was saved, July 11, 1961, and she united with Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church later that same year, where she remained a member until her death.
Linda always thought of others, even in her weakest moments. She was concerned for all, especially the children. She knew that it was very important to help others, and every month she donated to those less fortunate. She was always there to lend a hand and let others know how much she cared.
Linda attended Western Kentucky University and received some education in accounting. She worked for Cook & Co. Accounting in Bowling Green, Kentucky as the office Manager for 8 years. She later went to work for Citizens Bank, of Bowling Green, for 12 years as their Computer Programmer. For the last 15 years prior to her illness, she worked at Wal-Mart here in Lafayette in the electronics department. In Linda’s professional life, she had also been a member and past President of the American Business Women’s Association of Bowling Green, KY.
As was said, Linda always wanted to help others. With this, the family request instead of sending flowers, please make a donation to the Macon Helps Terminal Illness Fund, to help others fight the battle she fought for six years.
Linda is survived by; her mother, Hassie Mai Perdue, her sister, Kathy Perdue, her brothers, Mike Perdue, Myron Perdue and wife, Gail, her nephew, Christopher Kuykendall and wife, Nicky, and their children, Zoe and Logan, her niece, Brandy Keith, and husband, Daniel, and their children, Brandon and Isaac, and, many cousins who cherished Linda as a big sister.

Carol Jean Oliver, age 66, of Hartsville, TN passed away on June 25, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services for Carol Jean Oliver were conducted Sunday, June 27, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend David Spears and Brother Donald Slayton officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on September 25, 1943 to the late Minnie Adcock Farley and Tom Farley. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by; brothers, Melvin Farley, W. T. Farley, and O. C. Farley, and sisters, Annie B. Knight and Louise Sullivan.
Mrs. Carol enjoyed life and she loved being with her family and many friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to fish and be outdoors. It was said that she had a “green thumb” when it came to gardening. She loved growing things and admiring her flowers. She was a member of the East Main Missionary Baptist Church in Hartsville, TN. She was a loving woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. John Farley, age 57 of the Westside Community passed away on June 22, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services for John Farley were be conducted Friday, June 25, at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Lonnie Meador officiating. Cremation followed.
He was born in Macon County, Tennessee on May 12, 1953 to Betty Frye Farley and the late Melvin Farley. Besides his father; one brother, Tony Farley also preceded him in death.
John was a farmer most of his life. He enjoyed working with his livestock. He also worked as a self-employed electrician until he became disabled. Hunting and fishing was some of the things he loved to do in his leisure time. John was a loving father who cherished his children and grandchildren. He was of the Baptist belief, and most importantly, he told his family of an experience of being saved a few years ago.
John will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

MRS. EFFIE WIX- Age 91 of Springfield, TN and formerly of Lafayette, TN passed away on June 17, 2010 at the NHC Healthcare in Springfield, TN. On May 6, 1919, she was born to the late James Lewis and Etta Holman Andrews in Macon County, TN. Effie was married to the love of her life, Louis Wix on September 29, 1940. They shared fifty-three years together and raised three children. Louis preceded her in death in September of 1993.
Besides her husband and parents; one grandchild, Mark Farley, one great-grandchild, B.J. Brown, and a sister, Lena Cox also preceded her in death.
She worked as a seamstress for Sportswear Association in Westmoreland, TN for several years. Effie was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, and she sewed for the public in her spare time. She was known for her cooking; making a big meal or a snack for her family or the preacher, made her happy. She liked working in her flowers and had some beautiful roses. Effie loved family gatherings and being with her family. She cherished her grandchildren.
After being saved in her youth, she joined Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a long time member. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

ROBERT ARTHUR WOOD, age 73 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away, June 16, 2010 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Funeral services for Robert A. Wood were conducted Saturday, at 12 noon from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Gray and Sister Elizabeth Overstreet officiating. Scott Derryberry, Randy Overstreet, David Brown, Kevin Morgan, J.C. Frye, and David Gray served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Green Grove Cemetery.
He was born in Columbia County, Florida on February 11, 1937 to the late John Wood and Ruth Rebecca Hinson Wood Pedrick. Besides his parents; brother, Ronnie Wood, and father-in-law, Cordell Story, also preceded him in death.
Robert married the love of his life Betty Sue Story Wood on March 21, 1963, sharing forty-seven years together and raising two children; Betty Sue survives.
He was a pressman for United Methodist Publishing House for around twenty years and Lithographic Company for fifteen years. Robert liked to work in his garden and yard from sun-up to sun-down. Metal detecting was a hobby that he enjoyed in his spare time. He was a loving and caring man, who was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Robert cared greatly for his church family and enjoyed attending the Full Gospel Mission in Nashville, TN. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

PAUL E. DEREE, age 66 of Red Boiling Springs, TN passed away, June 15, 2010 at The Palace Care and Rehab. Funeral services for Paul E. DeRee were conducted Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Nelson McDonald Cemetery with Larry Kirkland officiating; Interment followed. Joshua Jines, Rose Haymaker, James Jines, Steven Jines II, Timothy Jines, and Steven Jines served as Pallbearers.
He was born in Marion County, Indiana on May 15, 1944 to the late Alva Otis and Anna Lea Wesner DeRee.
Truck driving was Paul’s occupation for over twenty-five years; Gilbert Carrier was the last place he worked, before becoming disabled. He was very outgoing and enjoyed life to the fullness. What meant the most to him was being with family, watching television, and eating pizza.
Paul was a man who always wanted to do for others. Great personality was what people remember about Paul; very caring, loving, and complimentary to the people around him.
Paul was married to the love of his life, Sharlotta Mae DeRee in 1983, sharing nineteen years together; she preceded him in death in 2002. A poem written by him after his wife’s death, shows the great love and respect he had for her, it reads;
I sit and look out the cold foggy window, See the soft breeze blowing, I’m so lonesome,
To hear the twigs tapping my window, In my mind she’s still here, but I know she’s gone.
Six years and I’m still alone and still going strong. For there will never be another,
no matter how long.
Besides his wife and parents; son, J.C. Brown, and daughter, Anna Tarter; also preceded him in death.
Paul will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

DEAN FARLEY WHEAT, age 69 of Scottsville, Kentucky, and formerly of Lafayette, TN passed away, June 14, 2010 at Cal Turner Extended Care Pavilion. She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on June 12, 1941 to the late Albert Harris Hammock and Attie Bell Farley Whittemore.
Dean was married to Robert Wheat on June 8, 1981, sharing six years together; Robert preceded her in death on September 1, 1987.
Dean was a homemaker and loved being with her family. She liked to wear and collect hats. Talking and visiting with family and friends was what she enjoyed; if you came by and just waved and spoke to her, you made her day. Dean loved going to church and was a member of Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church, where she went very time she could. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

JOHN BILL GULLEY, better known as “Bill”, age 85 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away, June 11, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services for John Bill Gulley were conducted Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jimmie Cox officiating. William Blackwell, Troy Mungle, Scotty Mungle, Jonathon Dean, Owen Watson and Dennis Bandy served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Drury Cemetery.
He was born in Macon County, Tennessee on August 17, 1924 to the late James Robert and Mary Agnes Scruggs Gulley. Besides his parents; seven brothers, Lathard Gulley, Luther Gulley, Rupell Gulley, Dan Gulley, Andrew Gulley, Johnson Gulley, and Oscar Gulley, two sisters, Dorothy Sanders, and Lula Gulley; also preceded him in death.
Bill married the love of his life, Betty Lucille Carver Gulley on November 10, 1951, sharing almost fifty-nine years together and raising six children; Betty survives.
He enjoyed his job at Tri-County Electric Membership Company, working there for twenty-eight years before retiring. He grew tobacco and raised cattle; often you would find him sitting outside watching his cows as they grazed. Bill loved his farm, he would walk the land very day as long as his health allowed.
He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and whittling with his family and friends. Bill was big hearted and had a great personality; he would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it.
In later years, he enjoyed going to Wal-Mart, just to sit and see people he knew and talk awhile. His wife, children, and grandbabies were his pride and joy; having them surround him at home made him happy; he loved everybody. Bill was a member of Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on June 17, 1955 to the late W.C. and Mary Lou Keith Swaner.
Ricky was married to Sandy Mangram Swaner for three years. He leaves behind one daughter and grandson. Ricky was disabled, but enjoyed life. He enjoyed collecting Teddy bears and being with his family and friends. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg. Ricky will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

CARTHELL B. DRIVER, age 84 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, June 9, 2010 at Macon County General Hospital. Graveside services for Carthell B. Driver were conducted Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11 p.m. from the Macon County Memorial Gardens with Elder Anthony Hale officiating and interment followed. Brian Driver, T.J. Jones, Myron Perdue, Steve Brummitt, Kelvin Stevens, and Tim Green served as Pallbearers.
He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on May 18, 1926 to the late Bert and Susie Pipkin Driver. Carthell married the love of his life, Irene Wood Carter Driver on August 20, 1948, sharing almost fifty-two wonderful years together and raising a son; Irene preceded him in death on February 1, 2001.
He was a veteran serving in the Army during World War II, after returning home he worked as a mechanic for Imperial Reading for several years and Form-Fit Rogers several years, before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed going fishing and bowling with friends and family, he also liked to raise big gardens. Carthell was a member of the V.F.W. in Lafayette and was of the Baptist Faith. He loved his family, cherishing every moment he had with them. Carthell will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
He is survived by; son, Dewayne and wife Patricia Driver, grandchildren, Brian and wife Karla Driver, and April and husband T.J. Jones, great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Brady Driver, and Gage Jones, all of Lafayette, TN and brother, Hillard Moe Driver of Lafayette, TN; also survives.

DANNY DEWAYNE HOLLAND, age 45 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away, June 7, 2010 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services for Danny Dewayne Holland were conducted Friday, June 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Walter Andrews officiating. Jim Seals, Joe Bakken, Jason Holland, Jackie Yokley, Jessie Yokley, and Jerry Yokley served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Scott Cemetery.
He was born in Macon County, Tennessee on April 23, 1965 to Virginia Ruth Meador Holland and the late Smithy Holland.
Danny leaves behind three children, Kattie, Amber, and Josh. He was a self-employed contractor; working for Lafayette Manufacturing for around four years, a logger for five years, and Fleetwood as a service worker for several years. Danny loved the outdoors; deer and squirrel hunting, and fishing, kept him busy. When his children were young, he enjoyed taking them to the lake, boating and sledding in the winter time. He was a big fan of UT Football and enjoyed watching it on television. Danny was saved around the age of thirty-one and joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a member. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by; mother, Ruth Holland, daughters, Kattie Holland, and Amber (Ricky) Jetton, son, Josh Holland all of Lafayette, TN, sister, Rhonda (Michael) Rigsby of Chattanooga, TN, several aunts, uncles, and cousins; also survive.

BOYD MOSS, age 87 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away, June 7, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services for Boyd Moss were conducted Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. from the Lafayette City Cemetery with Jack Lackey officiating. Interment followed in the Lafayette City Cemetery.
He was born in Clay County, Tennessee on July 9, 1922, to the late Herman Lee and Beard Bryan Odell Moss. Besides his parents: five brothers, Arkley, Edward, Bert, Herman, Jr., and Roy Moss, one sister, Irene Gulley, also preceded him in death.
Boyd worked as a farm hand for most of his life. He enjoyed breaking horses and mules. He also worked for Texas Boot Company for around ten years. Boyd was a member of Adams Avenue Church of Christ in Lebanon, TN.
Boyd is survived by; son, James Smotherman and Jessica Kemp of Lafayette, TN, sisters, Olene Smith of Smithville, TN, Lorene Strasser of Lebanon, TN, and Elise (Jewel) Winfrey of Lebanon, TN, sister-in-law, Helen Moss of Lebanon, TN and a host of nieces and nephews; also survive.

RICHARD JENKINS MEADOR., age 62 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, June 6, 2010 at Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9th, at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Guthrie Gregory officiating. Braxton Boles served as honorary pallbearer. Brian Jenkins, Cody Miller, Shane Hesson, Frank McCall, Nelson Meador, and Hank Meador served as active pallbearers. Interment followed in the Long Creek Cemetery.
He was born in Wilson County, Tennessee on May 27, 1948 to the late Denver Ray
and Jessie Mae Jenkins Meador. Besides his parents; one cousin, Ralph Meador, also preceded him in death.
Richard was a veteran serving almost four years in the Navy. After returning home,
he went to work for G.E. for a short time, worked for Tennessee Valley Authority for several years and worked for D.T. McCall for ten years. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Lafayette. Richard was an avid gun and knife collector, he also collected Nascar Memorabilia. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Richard was a loving son who cherished his mother; he visited her every day until her death in March. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on September 11, 1924 to the late Lisha and Florence Ann Carter Cox. Besides her parents; sisters, Hester Lamb and Vester Lamb, and one grandson, David Beasley, also preceded her in death.
Augusta was married in her younger life and had a daughter. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed quilting, sewing, working in her flowers and doing for her family. Augusta liked caring for her pet dog and loved watching birds, too. Nana was a great example of love. Love is patient, kind, not selfish, not boastful; love endures. She showed all the characters of love to all, would take care of anyone, and wanting nothing in return. Augusta was a loving, hard working mother and grandmother who loved her babies. She attended Hillcrest Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her. We can rejoice knowing that she is finally at rest after years of toil and labor.

He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on March 24, 1941 to Myrtle Louise Draper Brown and the late Cordell Brown. Besides his father; two grandsons, Mark Aaron Brown and Owen James Brown, also preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Army and was a carpenter by trade. James was saved in 1974 at Hartsville Missionary Baptist Church. James was a father and grandfather that loved his family deeply. His keen sense of humor, intelligence, and love for the Lord will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Paul married the love of his life, Helen Webster Cavender on August 7, 1955, sharing almost fifty-five wonderful years together and raising three children; Helen survives.
Paul was a veteran serving in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, after returning home he worked for the Tennessean and The Banner Paper in Nashville, for several years. In later years when he moved to Lafayette he started “C&F Cleaning” a floor cleaning business; serving the public until he retired. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather, who tried to see that his family’s needs were met. Paul and Helen enjoyed being together; going fishing and golfing. Helen says the most wonderful times in their lives where when they would go on long walks, singing, and holding hands. Paul was of the Baptist faith and will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

NORMA RUTH WIX, age 68 of Wixtown Community in Macon County, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, June 2, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral services for Norma Ruth Wix were conducted Friday, June 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Andrews, Reverend David Mitchell, and Reverend Willie Laduc officiating. Interment followed in the Shrum Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on November 3, 1941 to the late Delmar C. and Ruby Dean Slayton Frye. Besides her parents; one son, Dwight Wix, and brother, Earl Frye, also preceded her in death.
She was married to Reverend Murl D. Wix on October 5, 1957, sharing fifty-two years and two children, Reverend Murl survives. Norma worked as a seamstress for local garment factories most of her life. She was a simple lady who loved her family and centered her life on them. Norma enjoyed going to yard sales, shopping for antiques, and being with her friends. She always made sure she got to watch preaching programs on Television and she supported her husband in his ministries. She received Christ at the age of thirteen. Norma was a member of Providence General Baptist Church.
She will be deeply, deeply missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

RHONDA GAMMON KROMKO, age 52 of the Ebenezer Community in Macon County, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, June 1, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services for Rhonda Gammon Kromko were conducted Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Anthony Hale officiating. Jeff Dickens, Chris Dickens, Dewayne Upchurch, Larry Gammons, Mark Gammons, and Scott Gammons served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on May 30, 1958 to George Wallace Gammon. Rhonda was married in her younger life and the proud mother of two sons, Lee and Damien. Then later she met and was married to John Kromko in August of 2008, although they had a short time together, there were many wonderful memories shared; John survives.
Rhonda worked for GF in Gallatin for several years making office furniture. And, for the past seven years, she worked at L and W Engineering in Lebanon, making car parts. She enjoyed her garden and flowers, especially her grandmother’s heirloom rose bush, which she saved by finding a root that was left on the creek bank. Rhonda was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, who tried to see that the family had everything they needed. She got saved at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and joined the church there and remained a member. Rhonda will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

SAMMIE GAY “Dinky” PRICE, better known as Dinky, age 88 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, May 29, 2010 at Alive Hospice of St. Thomas Hospital. Funeral services for Sammie Gay “Dinky” Price were conducted Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 1 p.m. from the Lafayette First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Nelson officiating. The Deacons of Lafayette First Baptist Church served as Honorary Pallbearers. Ryan Boggess, Jacob Boggess, Ron Dooley, Lanny Newberry, Craig Linhoss, and Sam Reid served as Active Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Anderson’s & Son Memorial Park.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on April 7, 1922 to the late Sam Alexander Cothron, Jr. and Geneva Holland Cothron.
She was married to Allison B. Price on October 25, 1945, sharing almost sixty-one wonderful years together and raising three children; Allison preceded her in death in October of 2006. Besides her husband and parents; three sisters, Jane Witcher, Anna Faye Reid, and Nanella Ferne Hix, also preceded her in death.
Dinky served the public as a teller for Citizen’s Bank for over twenty-five years. She enjoyed taking care of her home, collecting antiques, and working in her flower gardens. Dinky was a loving and caring mother and grandmother; being around her family brought her great joy.
She was a charter member of the Lafayette First Baptist Church. Dinky will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

KATHERINE HARPER JENKINS, age 84 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 29, 2010 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Katherine Harper Jenkins were conducted Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 1 p.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Anthony Hale officiating. Wayne Harper, Bryant Harper, Tony Harper, Barry Harper, Scotty Meador and Robert Denson served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Cold Springs Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on December 27, 1925 to the late Harmon and Hester Idell Scott Blankenship.
She was married to Calvin C. Harper on February 18, 1944, sharing twenty-four years and three children together; Calvin preceded her in death in 1968. On February 23, 1973, she was married to Carlos Ray Jenkins, sharing fourteen years together; he also preceded her in death in 1987.
Katherine worked for Texas Boot Company in Hartsville, TN for several years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and working in her yard. Katherine liked to be on the go, whether it is to the Senior Citizens Center to be with her friends or with the family where ever they may be going. All they had to say is “We are going”. She had a great love for her family and cherished her grandchildren. She was a member of the Days Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. Katherine will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

THELMA CHRISTINE DALLAS STEVENS, age 85 of Westmoreland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 29, 2010 at Macon County General Hospital. Funeral services for Thelma Christine Dallas Stevens were conducted Monday, May 31, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Charlie Patterson and Brother Jr. Spears officiating. Jeff Summers, Jimmy Summers, Christopher Dallas, Jamie Woodard, Charlie Woodard, and Chris West served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Roark Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on October 28, 1924 to the late William Haley and Allie Aildor Shrum Bransford.
She was married to Odis Ray Dallas on September 28, 1940, sharing almost fifty years together and raising six children; Odis preceded her in death on July 17, 1990. Thelma was married for a short time to her second husband Huston Stevens; who preceded her in death after three years of marriage. Besides her husbands and parents; one son, Jerry Wayne Dallas, brothers, Cager Bransford, and R.C. Bransford, sisters, Ruby Pipkin, and Gracie Jones, granddaughter, Loretta Kay Morrison, and grandson, Danny Lewis Summers; also preceded her in death.
Thelma was a simple woman who loved taking care of her home and family. When she was younger, sewing her children’s clothes kept her busy. Thelma liked to play putt-putt golf when ever she got the chance and she enjoyed playing bingo at the nursing home. She loved for her family to come see her, but if her soap opera’s were on, you didn’t get much attention from her. Thelma’s life consisted of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by; daughters, Virginia Ann and husband J.W. Farley of Akersville, KY, Donna Markita and husband Wayen Warner of the Cedar Bluff Community in Macon County, TN, Linda Faye and husband Carlos West, Glenda Kay and husband Earl Wix, and Allie Marie and husband Glenn Summers all of Lafayette, TN, brothers,

DAVID HAYDEN SHRUM, better known as Hayden, age 23 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away May 26, 2010 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services for David Hayden Shrum were conducted Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Macon County High School Auditorium with Reverend Kenny Sullivan officiating. Bryan Satterfield, Ron Allen Powell, Buddy Leonard, Scotty Sutton, Grant Malo, Rodger Gregory, Timmy Lowhorn, and David Neighbors served as Honorary Pallbearers. Adam Bandy, Jordan Carver, Bo Cook, Reagan Newberry, Mike Crosland, Scotty Clariday, Dustin Marr, and Daniel Carr served as Active Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
He was born in Sumner County, Tennessee on November 17, 1986 to David Dewayne Shrum and Jerri Fellisha Deering Shrum; they survive. He was preceded in death by; grandfathers, Jerry Deering and J. T. Shrum.
Hayden was a 2005 graduate from Macon County High School, and a 2007 graduate of Volunteer State Community College with an Associates Degree. He was completing his Bachelor’s degree at MTSU. Hayden played baseball all four years in high school and continued to play at Vol-State as a pitcher. He attended Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church. He cherished his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

EURA ANN MEADOR, age 105 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 25, 2010 at Knollwood Manor. Funeral services for Eura Ann Meador were conducted Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Wayne Meador and Greg Watson officiating. Wayne Meador, Greg Watson, Dennis Purcell, Nathan Purcell, Jamey Allen, and Misty Allen served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Portland, TN.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on June 6, 1904 to the late Jasper Clarence and Martha Ellen Morrison Simmons.
In 1919 at the age of fifteen, Eura was married to the love of her life Dennis Emmit Meador, sharing almost fifty-five years together and raising three children; Dennis preceded her in death on May 19, 1974.
As a young couple they lived on his parent’s farm and being a farmer’s wife, she worked on the farm; milking cows, raising tobacco and strawberries, and helping with the cattle. Eura and her husband moved their family to Franklin, Kentucky, where they made their home and lived until Dennis passed away.
Later in life, she moved to Golden Oaks and lived there several years celebrating her 100th birthday there. Eura was a homemaker and farmer’s wife, but most of all a very loving and devoted mother. She enjoyed sewing; making over 100 quilts and doilies that she shared with her family and friends. She was baptized at Drake’s Creek, in Tennessee several years ago and attended Portland Church of Christ and Draper’s Crossroads Church of Christ.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
Eura is survived by; son, Wayne and wife Faye Meador of Hermitage Springs Community, grandchildren, Mona and husband Casey Wiley of Lubbock, TX,

KENNETH DAVENPORT, age 79 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 20, 2010 at Saint Thomas Hospital. Funeral services for Kenneth Davenport were conducted Saturday, May 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Mike Carver officiating. Mike Johnson, Harold Davenport, Jamie Davenport, Larry Davenport, Bill Shrum, and Howard Denson served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
He was born in Jackson County, Tennessee on December 27, 1930 to the late Hilman Lee and Pearl Witcher Davenport.
Kenneth married the former Barbara Ann McDonald on June 12, 1965, spending their lives together for almost forty-five years; Barbara survives. Besides his parents; three brothers, George Davenport, Truman Davenport, and Buster Davenport, also preceded him in death.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army for two years; after returning home he attended Nashville Auto Diesel College where he learned the trade of welding. He worked as a self-employed welder for fifty years; working for Nashville Bridge Company for five years, National Tank Company, taught at Tennessee Technology Center in Hartsville as a welding instructor for several years. Kenneth also owned and operated shops in Hartsville and Lafayette, before retiring.
He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was deer hunting in his younger days, gardening, or taking his dogs for a ride around the farm in the evening; that made him happy.
Kenneth was a kindhearted, caring person always willing to help anyone any way he could. He was of the Church of Christ faith. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, family and all who knew him.
Kenneth is survived by; wife, Barbara Davenport of Lafayette, TN, brother, Charles and wife Jean Davenport of Hartsville, TN, sister, Estelene and husband Dean Johnson of Gallatin, TN, sisters-in-law, Wilma Davenport of Castalian Springs, TN, and Libby Davenport of Hartsville, TN, several nieces and nephews; also survive.

FLORENE ARMOUR, age 91, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 12, 2010 at Knollwood Manor. Funeral services for Florene Armour were conducted Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jeff Blackwell and Brother Jerry Gammon officiating. Ronnie Reid, David Hernandez, Ryan Thompson, Trey Reid, and Jimmy Beckman served as honorary pallbearers. David Gaines, Billy Green, Jim Ford, Marcus Thompson, Lance Reid, and Paul Thompson served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Galen Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on October 27, 1918 to the late Absalon Price and Alice Gertrude Gammons Perrigo.
Florene was married to the love of her life, Dewey Armour, on February 9, 1936, spending their lives together and sharing three daughters. Dewey preceded her in death on May 19, 1990. Besides her husband and parents, four brothers; Edward Perrigo, Patty Perrigo, Clayton Perrigo and Glen Perrigo; also preceded her in death.
Florene was a homemaker and seamstress. She worked for Mary Nell Dress Shop in Madison, TN for around fifteen years. She made stage clothes for Mother Maybelle Carter and her daughters; June, Helen, and Anita. She also made her own daughter’s prom dresses and a lot of their clothes. In her younger days, she worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Stratton Elementary in Madison, TN and after moving back to Lafayette, she worked at Central Elementary.
Florene had a green thumb when it came to flowers. She could make anything grow. She was a mother who loved taking care of her home and family, and she enjoyed going to family reunions.
She was saved as a young girl and joined Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in 1931. She later moved her membership to Madison First Baptist Church where she remained a member. Florene will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by; daughters, Shirley (Doyle) Gaines of Lafayette, TN, Betty (Billy) Green of Mt. FRANCES LILLIAN LAW, age 94 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 8, 2010 at Knollwood Manor. She was born in Allen County, Kentucky on January 10, 1916 to the late Daniel and Rettie Crit Blankenship Gregory.
Frances was married to the love of her life, Elvis Woodard Law on February 2, 1934, sharing sixty-two years together, and raising a son and daughter, Elvis preceded her in death on October 27, 1996. Besides her husband and parents; son, Earl Law, daughter, Glenda Jones, brother, Ommie Gregory, and a sister, Mae Keene, also preceded her in death.
She enjoyed helping Elvis on the farm and keeping house. Frances cooked at Haysville Schoolhouse for a few years, also. She liked to quilt and keep her grandchildren. Frances loved her family and the time she spent with them and the grandchildren, cooking big meals for the family made her happy. She was saved as a young girl and joined Haysville Missionary Baptist Church; where she remained a member. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
Frances is survived by; grandchildren, Jill and husband Anthony Barber of Westmoreland, TN, Michelle and husband Eddie Byrd of Lavergne, TN, Terry and husband Ken Bird of Nashville, TN, Dwayne Law of Nashville, TN, and Keith and wife Lisa Law of Mt. EVELINNE FRANCES SMITH, better known as Evie, age 92 of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully May 8, 2010 at the Palace Care & Rehab.
Funeral services for Evie Smith were conducted Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder J.E. Shoulders and Brother Tony Day officiating. She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on July 1, 1917 to the late Clayton Lambert and Maggie Megaline McDuffee Thomas.
Evie was married to Audie W. Smith spending their lives together and sharing two sons; he preceded her in death on February 9, 1999. Besides her husband and parents; one son, Carthell Smith, brothers, Rufus Thomas, William Thomas, and Bethel Thomas; also preceded him in death.
Evie was a homemaker and worked at the Shirt Factory for a few years. She was a simple woman who loved taking care of her home and family. You never went to her house without her wanting you to eat; no matter what the time of day. Evie enjoyed quilting and working in her garden. She loved her family and enjoyed the time they spent with her. She was saved as a young girl and joined Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church, later she moved her membership to Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by; son, W.C. and wife Betty Smith of Lafayette, TN, granddaughter,

LORAINE SHADDEN, age 76 of Lafayette, Tennessee, and formerly of California passed away peacefully May 6, 2010 at her residence. A Memorial service for Loraine Shadden was conducted Monday, May 10, 2010 at 11 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Chet Grant officiating.
She was born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma on September 2, 1933 to the late David Ferrell and Dessie Eleanor Johnson Lancaster. Loraine was married to the love of her life, Bill Ray Shadden in 1950, sharing thirty-three years together and raising four children, Bill preceded her in death. Besides her husband and parents; grandson, Jeremy Grant, sister, Joyce Collins, and Brother, R.D. Lancaster, also preceded her in death.
Loraine was a farmer’s daughter, working in the fields along side her family as she grew up, later becoming a beautician and working for ten years. She enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was working in her yard, the flower gardens, or just taking long walks. Quilting and crocheting were crafts she liked to do, when she couldn’t be outside. Loraine was a dancer; she loved to go dancing and do the jitter bug, when ever she could. She was a very caring and nurturing mother; her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life. Loraine cherished her church and God; she was a member of the Pentecostal-First Assembly of God. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

JAMES CALSON DRIVER, age 76 of the Akersville Community in Allen County, KY passed away May 4, 2010 at the University Medical Center in Lebanon.
Funeral services for James Calson Driver were conducted Friday, May 7, 2010 at
3 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Henry Smith officiating. Dr. Floyd Reid, Tony Brooks, Terry Qualls, Erie Brooks, Michael Tucker, and Justin Gilmore served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Underwood Cemetery.
He was born in Allen County, Kentucky on August 1, 1933 to the late Clarence Edward and Pernie Edna Slayton Driver. Besides his parents; brother, Clarence Jackson Driver, and infant sister, Mildred Catherine Driver, also preceded him in death.
James worked as a trucker for the Vernie Bohanon Saw-Mill, Merchants, Manning Motors, and Bowling Green Express. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and retired in 1987. He enjoyed working outside and riding his farm tractor. James loved his family and not having any children of his own claimed his nephew and nieces like they were his. He was saved in his later years and was of the Baptist Belief. James was a member of the Hillsdale #664 Masonic Lodge F&AM and the Carthage Benevolant Masonic Lodge #14 F&AM. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
He is survived by; sister, Joyce and husband E.C. Lankford of Lafayette, TN, nephew, Troy Lankford of Lafayette, TN, nieces, Deana Videz of Oklahoma, Phyllis Strout of Scottsburg, AL, and Myra Blount of Nashville, TN, three great-nephews, three great- nieces, two great-great-nephews, two great-great-nieces, and many, many, friends; also survive.

NYOKA REECE RICH age 60, of the Hanestown Community in Macon County, Tennessee passed away May 4, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services for Nyoka Reece Rich were conducted Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Greg Dunham officiating. Phillip Smith, Terry Steen, Randy East, Tony East, Scott East, and Jeff East served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery.
She was born in Macon County, Tennessee on October 19, 1949 to the late John Webster and Gertie Mae Blankenship Steen. Besides her parents; one brother, Kenneth Steen, also preceded her in death.
Nyoka was married to Jerry Rich on June 25, 1973, sharing thirty-six years together; Jerry survives.
Nyoka was a homemaker, but had worked at different Quick Marts for Becky Sutton, when she could. She got involved with the Cub Scouts for several years and then later volunteered for the Family Readiness Group though the National Guard in Lafayette. Her daughter was in Desert Storm, and she enjoyed working with others who had family at war; trying to help them though the transition, any way she could. Nyoka liked to work crossword puzzles and to embroider, but the greatest past time for her was playing with her animals; two dogs and her bird. She loved and cared for her family and had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter. Nyoka was a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

GEORGE EDWARD MCFERRIN SR., age 87, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Brandywood Golden Living Center. The funeral service for George McFerrin, Sr. was conducted Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Russell Cain officiating. Justin Carlisle, Shane Carlisle, Jamie McFerrin, Joel McFerrin, Greg Hale, Dewayne Whittemore, and Jeffery Carlisle served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Joelton Hills Memory Gardens.
George McFerrin, Sr. was born on August 31, 1921. He was the son of Annie Lora Wesley. On March 4, 1949, he married Ethel Edith Duhon, who preceded him in death on September 30, 2004. Together they raised one daughter and three sons.
George served in the Coast Guard during WWII. He worked as a manager for Century Steps Company in Lebanon, TN for 15 years.
He is survived by; a daughter, Patricia Carlisle of Lafayette, TN, two sons; Jim W. (Tonie) McFerrin of Knoxville, TN, George Jr. (Paulette) McFerrin of Lafayette, TN, brother, John C. McFerrin of Alabama, half brother, Bill Brake of Florida, sister; Ann Laura Head of Alabama, half sister, Bonnie Syfrett of Florida, sister – in – law, Charlesine McFerrin of Alabama, 9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, George was also preceded in death by; his son, John Glenn McFerrin and a brother, Wesley McFerrin
