Jerry Capps
Manager
Licensed Funeral Director
Licensed Pre-need Insurance Agent
Jerry Capps began working for Alexander Funeral Home in 1969. But long before that Jerry had a lot of experience with dealing with death. As a young U.S. Army soldier, Jerry worked in a Graves Registration Unit, Stationed at Nahtrang, Located about ten miles north of Saigon in South Vietnam. As a member of a mortuary detail, it was Jerry's unenviable task to recover and provide dignity to the fallen, and to give solace to their families. For several years, ending in 1967, Jerry helped prepare the bodies of those killed in action for their journey back to the United States. In 1969, Paul and Helen Walker long time funeral directors and operators of the Alexander Funeral Home, ask if Jerry would be interested in a part-time job at their funeral home. So he has continued here for the last 40 years, handling funeral arrangements for more than 4,300 families in Macon and surrouding counties. Jerry and his wife, Linda, have a daughter and two granddaughters. His dedication is to his family, especially the granddaughters, whether taking them down to the creek to fish, or out to a pay lake. But mostly he does what ever they want to do. He takes off the first week of August every year just to be with the girls before school starts. Jerry has become a permanent fixture here at Alexander Funeral Home. The families from this area and surrounding areas have grown to respect and love Jerry and we are honored to have him on staff. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge #543, Lions Club, VFW, and American Legion. He is a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. |
